Week Twenty and Twenty-One: The Story About Ping

Since we had a snow day and I was out another day last week, I spent two weeks covering The Story About Ping by Marjorie Flack:

We made these mini books:

And we talked about ducks (lots of good information on ducks here.)

Here is a duck coloring page.

We also did a "Ducks Don't Get Wet" experiment where they painted Vaseline onto one paper duck.  They they dripped water onto it as well as a second paper duck to show that the water slips right off the oily duck's back, just like real ducks! They loved this.

Their most favorite thing, though, was our "Does it Float?" experiment.

Ping and his family:

As you can see, this was quite a mess.  However, this is so much fun and keeps them entertained for so long and they play together so well that I can tolerate it.  It would have been much easier outside but since there was about a foot of snow that wasn't gonna happen.  Click here to see my Water Play post.

Week Nineteen: Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?

Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear? by Nancy White Carlstrom:

We sorted hot and cold with this worksheet.

I cut out a weather bear paper doll for them to color and play with from this website.

I also brought in a wooden bear dress up game:

as well as a magnetic weather dress up game which I didn't take a picture of.

I brought supplies for us to make pinwheels which the kids loved.

Lastly, I printed off some weather, hot/cold sorting, and healthy lunch worksheets.
